On/Off Switch

Good point Hugh. We are planning a case update to incorporate an on/off switch as well as refining the overall improvements to battery life via a firmware update.

If a switch is incorporated behind the case could it be dual purpose.?
Within the environments that I work in, it is still hard to know or hear if the image(s) have been taken and are being processed.
A dual light / LED could indicate if an image is still being captured.

I support Colin in this respect.

When this happens will there be a recall to modify existing units please?

If one is using the iSTAR every day or every few days then it is practical to have a charging routine, but I have just spent a couple of weeks visiting my daughters and their families during which time the battery became completely exhausted and charging it was OK, but all my changes were reset to the default values.

I am concerned that the battery may suffer if it is left in a state of discharge as I have experienced exhausted batteries revering the polarity on one or more cells in the past and wonder if this can happen with the iSTAR battery.  I am concerned about this because I am travelling through souther Africa for two months from the end of this month, so should I charge the battery fully then take it out?

I am fortunate to have a spare battery.

It is a bit of a game swapping it over but the spare battery does seem to keep its charge for quite a considerable time (4 to 6 weeks at last check), which for me in the field could be vital.

You could charge it then remove it...the settings dont take too long to put back.

Would it make things easier if have a battery insulator installed beneath the unit? I totally agree with Hugh that the battery drain problem need to be sorted asap. 

Any news about this feature? Will the on/off switch be implemented in the future?

Update on my message of 10th September 2013.

As Colin suggested, I charged the battery then disconnected it before setting off for southern Africa.

After 10 weeks I reconnected the battery and put the unit on charge and when I switched on the iSTAR the start up screen came on OK, but then the unit seemed to freeze and remained on the start up screen and would not respond at all.

After about 15 minutes I switched the unit off by disconnected the battery waiting a minute or two then reconnecting the battery and switching it on again and this time everything was working fine again, nut all the settings had of course reset to default including the date and time.

Just a thought, but can the date and time by updated with the GPS clocks if the unit is used outside?

I am a little apprehensive in opening and closing the battery compartment because I am worried about damaging or losing the little screw - also, I use a Giotto quick release clamp to save wear and tear on the 1/4 Whitworth thread and have to remove this before opening the battery cover, so woul dreally welcome an On/Off switch, but this then raises the question will the settings reset to default each time the unit is switched off?

I don't think it's possible to have the date/time synced to a GPS clock but I've raised the question to the product development team.

No, an On/Off switch won't reset the settings to default when you turn it off.

We are currently evaluating an on/off switch to the design of the unit, along with other case enhancements as a cost optional upgrade. More details soon.

This feature is now implemented in the latest case design.
